Becoming Wukong: Aishwarya’s Legendary Cosplay Journey

This is not a screenshot from the game. This is a cosplay from Sri Lanka, and this was handmade by one of the most talented, creative and divinely humble people I’ve ever met.

I’ve had the privilege of knowing Aishwarya since the very first Lanka Comic Con in 2015. I’ll never forget seeing his handcrafted, flawless replica of Barad-dûr for the first time. It wasn’t just a sculpture, it was a statement. That day, I knew I was witnessing the rise of a true artist.
From then on, year after year, he raised the bar higher. From breathtaking sculptures to cosplays that felt ripped straight from screen and legend, he didn’t just participate, he redefined what cosplay means in Sri Lanka. For both our love for all things Tolkien, we were lucky to have cosplayed together, completely unplanned as Thranduil and Legolas in 2017, but for him, that was just another step toward greatness.

And now, Black Myth: Wukong.

This game was destiny for me. One of the most anticipated games for me ever since they revealed it years ago, I even bought a PS5 just to play it on release. It’s one of my all-time favourites, one of the top five games of all time easily. But Wukong isn’t just a character, he’s legend. To cosplay him demands absolute perfection. I knew I could never attempt it. But I always said: if anyone could bring the Monkey King to life, it would be Aishwarya.

And boy he did.

He didn’t just cosplay Wukong. He became Wukong. A living legend stood before us, every detail alive, every breath divine.
Aishwarya, my brother, you are not just the GOAT. You are the one true Destined One. ✨
